KSP Initiates Death Investigation After Two Bodies Discovered in Closplint, Ky.

Harlan County Coroner John Derrick Noe tells us that he responded to and is working an incident in which two people were found deceased Wednesday July 23rd, in the Closplint (clarified) community of Harlan County.

The coroner has identified the individuals as Lawrence David Shackleford and his wife Estelle Shackleford.

KSP Trooper Shane Jacobs states in a release: "Troopers and detectives from Post 10 responded to the scene and began an investigation. The initial investigation indicates a domestic situation occurred between a husband and wife. The female fled the residence and was fatally struck by gunfire. A short time later, the male died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound while on the front porch."

While it appears to be a murder-suicide incident, Kentucky State Police have initiated a death investigation.

The bodies of the two individuals have been sent to the Medical Examiners Office in Frankfort for autopsy.
