On Tuesday, April 29, at 10:14 pm, Kentucky State Police Post 10 Harlan received a call from Knox County Dispatch requesting assistance with an officer-involved shooting on Sugar Maple Drive in the Green Road community of Knox County. Troopers and Detectives immediately responded and began an investigation.

The preliminary investigation indicates that Knox County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) responded to a call regarding a female who was barricaded inside her residence, making suicidal threats. KCSO Deputies arrived at the scene and attempted to contact the individual, later identified as 53-year-old Daisy Allen.
Upon making initial contact with Ms. Allen inside the residence, deputies were sprayed with an unknown substance, which affected all three deputies. Deputies attempted non-lethal measures, deploying their taser and pepper spray. Unfortunately, these measures were ineffective. Ms. Allen then made verbal threats to kill the deputies and armed herself with a pitchfork.
In response to the immediate threat to their safety, one deputy discharged their service weapon, striking Allen in the abdominal area. Allen sustained injuries and was transported to UK Healthcare Albert B Chandler Hospital and listed in critical condition. No deputies were injured. However, the deputies involved needed aftercare for their faces due to the unknown substance they were sprayed with.
The Barbourville City Police Department also responded to assist the deputies when they called for assistance. The investigation remains ongoing by Trooper Sgt. Sturgill.
