From Laurel County Sheriff John Root -
Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that Detective Taylor McDaniel and Detective Robert Reed arrested Jeffery Smith, age 50 of London, after the investigation into a double shooting that occurred on Old Way Road in Eastern Laurel County.
During the investigation it was determined that Smith had fired a weapon in the direction of his adult daughter and her boyfriend during the early morning hours of Thursday July 22. This caused the boyfriend to return gunfire.
During this exchange, another party that was at the residence was struck. This individual was transported to the London-Corbin airport and flown to the University of Kentucky Medical Center. Also during the altercation, the boyfriend received multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to St. Joseph - London where he is receiving treatment.
Smith was charged with Attempted Murder and two counts of Wanton Endangerment,. He was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
Assisting in the investigation was Deputy Hobie Daugherty, Deputy Hunter Disney, Deputy Tommy Houston, Det. Justin Taylor, Det. Landry Collett, the London Police Department and Laurel County EMS.
