Leaving a baby in a car to play putt putt golf lands a Tazewell man in jail

On Saturday, November 9, 2024, Pine Mountain State Park Ranger Trent Kelly responded to the clerk at the lodge in regard to a guest who had left their baby unattended inside a vehicle in the parking lot. Kelly states in a citation that he could hear the child crying "from at least 100 yards."

The ranger goes on to state that the vehicle was locked and he had to break the window to remove the distressed baby. The officer found the child red in the face sweating through it's clothing. A park employee gave the child water.

Once the child was out, a man identified as the father - 32-year-old Charles Daniel York of Tazewell, Tn. - and two other children, showed up from playing putt-putt golf. Knox Ems had been contacted arriving to check the health condition of the child.

Ranger Kelly consulted with a county social service worker who advised the children could be released to their mother if there were no further issues, which there weren't. She traveled from Tennessee to pick them up.

Charles York was arrested and lodged in the Bell County Detention Center charged with endangering the welfare of a minor.

Kentucky State police assisted on scene.
