From The Knox County Ky. Sheriff's Department -

On Saturday, January 24, 2026, at approximately 11:34 a.m., Knox County Deputy David Dunn, along with Barbourville Officers Brayden Isom and Jaylen Adams, responded to 2770 N KY11 in Heidrick, Ky., after a call of a vehicle crashing into a home.

Once on scene, a 2018 Nissan Rogue was found partially inside a trailer. It was determined that the driver, 53-year-old Paul Cox of Lexington, had left the roadway, traveled a short distance through the yard, and jumped the car into the trailer, landing it halfway inside the home. The vehicle then began smoking.

The Richland Fire Department also responded and quickly extinguished the smoke. The vehicle was then extracted from the home, which was occupied at the time of the crash. No one was injured, however.

Through the smoke, Deputy Dunn states he smelled a heavy presence of alcohol coming from Paul Cox. The deputy further states that Cox refused multiple standard field sobriety and blood draw tests by law enforcement on scene.

Shortly after this incident, another individual came forward, telling Deputy Dunn that Cox struck their vehicle before leaving the roadway and hitting the trailer.

Paul Cox was arrested and lodged in the Knox County Detention Center, charged with:

Operating a motor vehicle under the influence of a substance – 1st offense, possession of a controlled substance – 1st degree, 1st offense – (Cocaine), and wanton endangerment – 1st degree.

Also responding were Knox EMS and Riley’s Towing
