Lily man on the run after burglary and machete threat taken into custody

On Wednesday evening November 1, 2023, after an extensive search for a wanted individual, Knox County Ky Deputies Jesse Smith and Jeremiah Williamson, working in conjunction with the Laurel County Sheriff’s Department, apprehended 39-year-old William Ragen of Lily, Kentucky.


Ragen had been on the run since early Wednesday morning after fleeing from Laurel County Deputies investigating a complaint of a man armed with a machete in the Slate Ridge Church Road area of Lily. The man, later identified as Ragen, had fought with Sgt. Brett Reeves and fled into a wooded area then forced his way into a home off Rocky Branch Road threatening the occupants with the machete.


Ragen was located by Deputies Smith and Williamson off KY 830 on Hazel Fork Road and then turned over to Laurel County Sgt. Reeves to be lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center. He has been charged with Burglary - 1st degree and Criminal Mischief. He is being held on two $50,000 cash bonds.


Sheriff Mike Smith said he appreciates the cooperation of all area law enforcement in bringing this situation to a safe conclusion.
