From Laurel County Sheriff John Root -
As WRIL reported earlier on Sunday a London man was charged with murder after the death of a Barbourville girl.
Sheriff's Root now reports that Laurel Sheriff's Detective Sgt. Chris Edward's arrested 24 year old Jordan Obenauer of London on Sunday morning 10-27-2019 at 6:26 a.m. charging him with murder.
The arrest was the result of an investigation conducted by the sheriff's office regarding an overnight UTV crash which occurred off U.S.25, approx. 8 miles north of London.
Investigators report that allegedly Obenauer was operating a 2016 Can-Am Maverick when it crashed resulting in the death of a 17 year old passenger Summer Disney from Barbourville. She was transported to St. Joseph Hospital London where she was pronounced deceased.
Jordan Obenauer was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Facilty and is being held on a $250,000 bond. He has an initial court appearance in London at 11am Monday October 28, 2019.
The sheriff has yet to report on the specific circumstances but we have been told that Obenauer admitted to drinking beer, wine, whiskey and a mixed drink before the crash.
Assisting was Detective James Sizemore, Deputy Shannon Jones, Deputy Josh Morgan, and Deputy Tommy Houston, Ambulance Inc. Of Laurel, London Laurel Rescue Squad, Laurel county Coroner's office, laurel County Emergency Management, and East Bernstadt Fire department.
