Lynch Ky. man charged with assault after stabbing and fleeing from law enforcement

On Monday, February 20, 2023,the Harlan County Sheriff's Office responded to a stabbing in Lynch. The victim was treated and eventually released from Harlan ARH. Through investigation the perpetrator was identified as David James and a warrant was issued for his arrest.


On Sunday February 26th, Benham Police Chief Tyler Hensley observed James in Benham. James fled on foot to a nearby residence. Chief Hensley responded to the residence along with Deputy Cody Bargo and Cumberland PD Assistant Chief Kainer Caudill who set up a perimeter until additional units arrived on scene. A search of the residence was conducted and James was located hiding in a crawl space under the residence and was peaceful taken into custody.


David James was arrested and charged with Assault 2nd degree, Wanton Endangerment 1st degree and Fleeing or Evading the Police 1st degree. Units assisting on scene were Deputies Bryan Napier, Jeremy Jones and HCSO Lieutenant John Teagle as well as CPD officer Sean Halcomb.


This case remains under investigation.
