James R. Cole - KCDC

On Monday, March 25, 2024, at approximately 7:10 am, Knox County Deputies responded to a complaint of a man walking around with two long butcher knives near a residence on Hooker Branch in Barbourville.

When the deputies arrived they observed a man, identified as 42-year-old James R. Cole of Barbourville, attempting to hide  behind a pallet of concrete blocks. As the deputies approached Cole, he came out from behind the blocks, laid the knives down and walked toward them. He refused all commands to stop given by the deputies, continued to walk toward them, became combative, and a physical confrontation followed.

After being physically subdued, James Cole was arrested and lodged in the Knox County Detention Center charged with Disorderly Conduct, Public Intoxication-Controlled Substance, Assault 3rd Degree/Police Officer and Resisting Arrest. After the arrest, the deputies learned that Cole had been smoking meth all night.
