Saturday morning January 15, 2022 at approximately 7:45am, Officers Brad Fuson and Dakota Torstrick responded to a theft in progress complaint at Crater City Automotive on Highway 25E in Middlesboro.
Upon arrival, the officers located and made contact with the suspect, identified as 37-year-old Ryan Andrew Byrd of Middlesboro, who was hiding inside the storage building of the business.
A Crater City Auto employee states they witnessed Byrd stealing a vehicle from the lot, then after being observed in the act, Byrd allegedly fled inside of the storage building, where Officer Fuson and Officer Torstrick apprehended him.
Ryan Andrew Byrd was arrested and lodged in the Bell County Detention Center charged with theft of a motor vehicle and burglary - 3rd degree. He was also served with six outstanding arrest warrants, one of which was a failure to appear for arraignment on a burglary - 3rd degree charge.
The Middlesboro Police Department was assisted by Cumberland Gap National Park Rangers, Hailey Houser and Ranger Harold Kelly.
