Middlesboro traffic stop yields arrest for rear seat passenger

On Tuesday February 2, 2021, at approximately 1:50 pm Officer Chris Barnes made a traffic stop on a tan 2003 Nissan for having a expired registration plate. Upon contact, Officer Barnes observed three occupants in the vehicle. After warrant checks it was determined that the rear passenger 39-year-old Retta Howard had five outstanding warrants for her arrest.


As Officer Barnes was placing Ms. Howard under arrest, he asked her if she had anything illegal on her. She told the officer that she had drugs on her. Officer Barnes states that Ms. Howard then retrieved a clear plastic bag that contained a crystal rock-like substance from the inside of her pants believed to be Methamphetamine.


Retta Howard was arrested and lodged in the Bell County Detention Center charged with possession of controlled substance - 1st degree, 1st offense (Methamphetamine) and she was served six bench warrants.
