Middlesboro woman charged with arson by setting husband's vehicle on fire and endangering others

On Tuesday, May 23, 2023, Middlesboro Lt./Detective Barry Cowan arrested a woman for burning a vehicle and putting others in danger in the process.


Lt. Cowan states in a citation that on May 14, 2023 at approximately 6:00pm, 36-year-old Kendra Baker of Middlesboro allegedly set a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado, belonging to her husband, on fire at a residence in the city. Middlesboro Fire Department responded and put out the flames. The vehicle, a total loss, was parked within 15 feet of the residence which had six people inside.


In addition, Lt. Cowan states that Baker is alleged to have been heard on a recorded phone call stating she hoped that the home also burned with the six people in the residence.


Baker was arrested and lodged in the Bell County Detention Center charged with arson – 2nd degree, arson – 1st degree (conspiracy), and (6) six counts of wanton endangerment.


Bond has yet to be set in this case.
