New Tazewell man dies after Harrogate two-vehicle accident

Just before 5pm on Monday May 3, 2021, there was a two-vehicle fatal accident in Harrogate, Tennessee on Highway 25E (Cumberland Gap Parkway).


Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper Chadwick Arnwine, along with Claiborne County Sheriff’s department and emergency service personnel, responded to the scene.


Trooper Arnwine states in his preliminary report that a 2013 white Kia Forte driven by 53-year-old Kenneth Widner of New Tazewell, formerly of Letcher County, was traveling southbound on Highway 25E.


A 2015 Peterbilt straight truck with a flatbed, driven by 36-year-old Christopher Bingham of Harrogate was stationary in the left turn lane waiting to turn onto Patterson Road when Widner struck the flatbed in the right rear driving under the truck bed shearing off the roof and top of the vehicle. Due to the extent of his injuries, Kenneth Widner died shortly after the accident.


The trooper stated in his report that no alcohol or drug use was a factor in this incident.


Also assisting on scene was the Harrogate Fire Department, Cumberland Gap Fire Department, and Lifestar.
