Pineville, Ky. Man Indicted For Murder in the Death of Stepson

As we previously reported on Saturday, July 11, 2026, around 5:00 p.m., Middlesboro Police/Fire/EMS responded to a reported shooting near Bell County Coal on Highway 74. Once on scene, it was discovered that the victim, 38-year-old Danny Brown Jr., was being driven to Middlesboro ARH Hospital by the alleged shooter, 56-year-old Wiley Denzil Pittman, his stepfather.

At 5:02 pm Kentucky State Police received a request for assistance from the Middlesboro Police Department regarding a shooting. Also responding to assist was the Bell County Sheriff's Department. Once at the hospital, Danny Brown Jr. succumbed to the gunshot and was pronounced deceased by Bell County Deputy Coroner Jason Steele.

KSP Trooper Jonathan Ledford arrested Wiley Pittman at Middlesboro ARH Hospital for the shooting death of Danny Brown Jr. and lodged him in the Bell County Detention Center, charging him with Murder. Pittman remains jailed at the BCDC.

On August 5, 2026, a Bell County Grand Jury returned a true bill against Wiley Pittman for the death of Danny Brown Jr. He is scheduled to be arraigned in Bell Circuit Court on September 18, 2026.
