Police identify man killed in Laurel County house fire

From WYMT -

One person is dead after a house fire in Laurel County Sunday April 14, 2019. Lily Fire Rescue responded to the house fire around 7 p.m. on Sugar Lane in Lily. Crews that responded said there was light smoke coming from the house.

After speaking to a neighbor, fire crews learned a person was still inside. Other neighbors, say several first responders came to the house before they could even tell there was a house fire.

Neighbor Brandy Murphy said: "fire trucks just started flying by and they surrounded the end of the road in no time,"

The fire department, along with West Knox Fire, did a search of the house and found Charles R. Barton, 58, of Lily. After removing Barton from the house, Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County pronounced him dead at the scene. Kentucky State Police Post 11 London is investigating the fire.

Barton's body was taken to the state medical examiner's office to confirm the cause of death.

KSP Trooper Lloyd Cochran said: "The cause and the origin of the fire has not been determined yet, or his exact cause of death. The autopsy has been scheduled for today,"

The fire department said no other injuries were reported from the fire.
