As a part of an ongoing investigation into the theft and cashing of a payroll check belonging to a Bell County Ambulance Service employee, a second person has been arrested and charged in connection with the incident.
A warrant was issued by the Bell County Sheriff's Office after an investigation initiated by the Bell County Fiscal Court for a co-defendant of Emily Long, 23-year-old Caleb Chase Day of Wallins Creek, Ky.
Day has been charged after entering the Gas N Go station in Harlan, Ky., on January 30, 2026, the day of the theft, with the ambulance employee's payroll check. Day then cashed the check at the business.
Kentucky State Trooper Lee attempted to serve the warrant on Caleb Day at a Henson Street address in Cumberland on Saturday, February 14, 2026. Upon his arrival, Trooper Lee saw Day outside the home, and when he pulled into the driveaway Day fled behind the home, jumping over a fence. A short time later, Day was taken into custody.
Caleb Day was arrested and lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center, charged with fleeing or evading police – 3rd degree, theft by deception – including cold checks over $1,000, but under $10,000, and possession of a forged instrument. He was also served with an outstanding warrant for contempt of court.
All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
