From Chief Jeremy D. Myers Tazewell Police Department -
On Wednesday night May 20, 2020 at 11:48pm Claiborne E-911 center received multiple calls of gunfire at the Dixie Plaza Motel located at 2161 U.S. Hwy. 25E. in Tazewell with possible victims. The Tazewell Police Department responded along with Claiborne County Sheriffs Office, New Tazewell Police Department, Tennessee Highway Patrol and Claiborne EMS.
The first units arrived within a minute of the 911 call.
Once on scene officers found a bullet riddled Ford Pick-up truck sitting sideways in the highway and a male with a possible gunshot to the neck. That individual later identified as Luke Holebrook of Hallie, KY. was transported by Lifestar to the University of Tennessee Medical Center for treatment. Also located at the scene were two other individuals identified as 38 year old Michael Rayburn and 39 year old Jeannie Van Zant.
Officers were informed that another male armed with a pistol had fled on foot. Detective Josh Fields and Chief Jeremy Myers were called to the scene and were assisted by detectives from the sheriffs office in processing the scenes. Detectives were faced with multiple crime scenes.
Claiborne County Sheriffs K-9 Deputy Winston Middleton and his K-9 partner Deputy Major were instrumental in the apprehension of the male who fled and tracked the individual who had fled on foot to a thicket behind the motel after the discovery of a shirt and handgun behind the building.
That individual identified as 39 year old Michael Scott Dixon of Greenville, Tn. was apprehended without further incident. There was another male victim who was unharmed in the incident who was later located hiding in the pool area. At this time the investigation is ongoing. This was an isolated incident between the parties involved.
At the scene an AK-47 Rifle and Sig Sauer pistol were recovered and multiple shots were fired along with the discovery of a knife.
At this time the following individuals are charged with the following and are housed in the Claiborne County Jail:
Michael Shane Dixon - Aggravated Assault x3 Jeannie Van Zant- Especially Aggravated Kidnapping x2, Aggravated Assault x 2. Michael Rayburn- Especially Aggravated Kidnapping x2 Aggravated Assault x 2 Luke Holebrook (not pictured) - Especially Aggravated Kidnapping x 2 Aggravated Assault x 2
