Several arrested on drug charges in Harlan County

From The Harlan County Sheriff's Department -

On Monday, February 15, 2021 Harlan County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were on Patrol in the Verda area after receiving a drug trafficking complaint. Deputies observed two individuals slumped over inside a vehicle on the shoulder of Mine Rd.

Upon making contact with the occupants of the vehicle, Deputies observed a bag of suspected methamphetamine in a passenger’s lap. The passenger, Randall Cottrell, also threw a bag of suspected Xanax pills on the ground and attempted to crush them. A search of the vehicle was conducted and Deputies discovered other prescription controlled substances, cash and several other items that indicated drug trafficking.

Rebecca Combs, 33, of Evarts was charged with Trafficking in Controlled Substance 1st Degree (Methamphetamine), Trafficking in Controlled Substance 2nd Degree and 2 counts of Trafficking in Controlled Substance 3rd Degree.




Randall Cottrell, 33, of Evarts was charged with Trafficking in Controlled Substance 1st Degree (Methamphetamine), Trafficking in Controlled Substance 2nd Degree, 2 counts of Trafficking in Controlled Substance 3rd Degree and Tampering with Physical Evidence.

On Monday, February 15, 2021 Deputies conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle on KY 38 in the Ages area. Deputies had received several complaints on this vehicle driving in a reckless manner. Upon making contact with the operator or the vehicle, Deputies determined that he appeared to be Under the Influence.

Through further investigation, a plastic baggie containing several suspected Xanax pills was discovered on his person. Deputies also located a large amount of cash and several other items that indicated drug trafficking.

Mark Middleton, 53, of Evarts was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence and Trafficking in Controlled Substance 3rd Degree.

On Sunday, February 14, 2021 Deputies were on patrol on KY72 just after midnight. Deputies made contact with Michael Lundsford, 27, of Baxter. Deputies conducted a brief investigation which led to him being charged with Possession of Controlled Substance 1st Degree (Methamphetamine).

All subjects were lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center. The cases remain under investigation by the Harlan County Sheriff’s Office.
