Shooting complaint leads to a non-complaint sex offender

Failure to comply with sex offender registration arrest:

Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff’s Deputy Justin Taylor along with Deputy Charlie Johnson arrested 26 year old Zakrey R. Burritt East Bernstadt early Monday morning May 25, 2020 at approximately 12:32 AM. The arrest occurred off Highway 1376, approximately 8 miles north of London after deputies were dispatched to a shooting complaint there.


Upon arrival at the scene deputies conducted an investigation and learned that allegedly shots had came from across the road possibly in a storage building there where individuals were staying. Deputies traveled to that location conducting an investigation and found Burritt hiding in a shower in the bathroom there.


An investigation was conducted and it was determined that he was a non-compliant sex offender. In addition, he was also found in possession of a hypodermic syringe containing a clear liquid substance believed to be methamphetamine.


Zakrey Burritt was charged with failure to comply with sex offender registration – first offense; resisting arrest; possession of drug paraphernalia. In addition, he was charged on a Laurel District Court bench warrant of arrest charging failure to appear in court on charges of wanton endangerment – second-degree – police officer is victim ;possession of drug paraphernalia; public intoxication – controlled substances; receiving stolen property.– firearm; receiving stolen property under $10,000.


Burritt was lodged in the Laurel County correctional center.
