Single vehicle accident takes the life of an Evarts man, KSP investigating

On Tuesday, August 9, 2022, at 3:54 p.m. Kentucky State Police, Post 10 Harlan received a call of a single vehicle collision on Hwy 38 in the Ages community of Harlan County. Troopers from Post 10 responded and began an investigation.


The Initial investigation indicates a 1994 Chevrolet pickup truck operated by 74-year-old David Smith of Evarts was traveling on Hwy 38 when he left the roadway and entered a ditch. Mr. Smith’s vehicle then overturned causing him to partially be ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by Harlan County Coroner Phillip Bianchi. Mr. Smith was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision.


The collision is under investigation by Tpr. Brandon Pierson. Also assisting at the scene was Lifeguard Ambulance, Harlan County Rescue Squad, and Harlan County Coroner Phillip Bianchi.
