Stopping for service causes an accident in Bell County

From Fire Chief Jason Partin - Frakes VFD

At approximately 2:15pm Sunday March 10, 2019, the Frakes Volunteer Fire Department responded to a two-vehicle accident just past the intersection of Lizzie Partin Road and Hwy 190.

It was determined that Deshana Kaufman of Louisville, Ky was traveling west on Hwy 190 when she suddenly stopped her 2018 Kia Forte in the roadway to check her phone for cell service in order to access her GPS for directions. The driver behind her, Dalton Moore, was unable to stop his 1994 Ford F250 and collided with Kaufman. The impact pushed her off the roadway and onto an embankment.

Upon the arrival of the fire department, both occupants were out of their vehicles and both refused medical treatment. Bell County Officer Jake Perry responded to the scene and cited Ms. Kaufman for operating a motor vehicle on a suspended license. She was taken to Pineville by Officer Perry so that she could get cell service in order to contact someone to come and pick her up.

Wagner's towing responded to remove the Kia from the scene.
