From WRIL The Big One/8th Judicial Circuit Attorney Generals Office -
Daniel Jack Goins of Tazewell was indicted by the Claiborne County Grand Jury in 2023 on five counts of the “continuous sexual abuse of a child and one count of aggravated rape.”
He was previously indicted in April 2020 for over a hundred similar offenses involving crimes against children. He was released on bond a short time after his release.
At one point Goins fled the state only to be found later in 2023 in Kokomo, Indiana, after the Tazewell Police Department and Howard County Sheriff’s Office worked together to arrest him. He was then extradited back to Claiborne County on September 20, 2023, by Tazewell Lt. Detective Josh Fields and Police Chief Jeremy Myers.
On Tuesday, December 16, 2025, in the Criminal Court for Claiborne County, Tennessee, Judge Zachary R. Walden sentenced Daniel Jack Goins, of Tazewell, to sixty (60) years to serve in the custody of the Tennessee Department of Correction. That is 60 years for each count to be served concurrently. This is the maximum sentence allowed by Tennessee law for this offense. This sentencing hearing follows a three-day jury trial that occurred on August 19-21 where a Claiborne County jury convicted Goins of five (5) counts of continuous sexual abuse of a child involving four minor victims.
Victim statements were made during the hearing with Judge Walden hearing from at least two in person.
This case was investigated by the Tazewell Police Department, specifically Deputy Chief Josh Fields and Chief Jeremy Myers. Also assisting in the investigation in this case was Chief Gary Ruszkowski of the New Tazewell Police Department and Senior Detective Brad Duncan of the Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office. Also providing invaluable assistance in the prosecution of this case were the Children’s Center of the Cumberlands, the Claiborne County Children’s Center, and the Campbell County Children’s Center. The State was represented at sentencing by Assistant District Attorneys General Carla Brewer and Graham E. Wilson.
