Two arrested for car break-ins and thefts in Harlan

On Saturday, September 10, 2022, several vehicle break-ins and thefts were reported in the city of Harlan. Now two men have been arrested in connection to the crimes.


Two 18-year-olds, Takota Hagle of Baxter and Brent Edward Hammonds of Harlan, have both been taken into custody by Harlan City Police on Monday, September 12th.


Officer Mark Saylor states in the complaint warrants that the pair busted out car windows of three vehicles at Arby's parking lot and unlawfully entered eight vehicles throughout Harlan City limits removing the victim's personal property.


Both men were lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center charged with Criminal Mischief - 1st degree and Theft By Unlawful Taking (auto).


The two were released on ROR bonds on Tuesday the 13th, but according to Harlan Police, Hammonds was re-arrested on Wednesday, September the 14th after more charges came to light. He has been additionally charged with Criminal Mischief - 1st Degree, Criminal Mischief - 3rd Degree, Burglary - 3rd Degree, and Theft By Unlawful Taking (auto). He is being held on a $2500.00 cash bond.
