Two arrested with meth, hydrocodone, and several firearms

The sheriff - along with Sheriff's detectives ,deputies, and a K-9 team - arrested two individuals off Jesse Smith Road, approximately 10 miles east of London on Wednesday afternoon October 23, 2019 at approximately 4:26 PM.


The arrests occurred while Sheriff's investigators were conducting a drug investigation while investigating complaints in that area. Upon arrival at the scene, investigators located a male subject at the front door and learned that a female subject and two grandchildren were in the residence. The female subject was found in the residence bathroom armed with a .38 caliber pistol – the female subject pointed the weapon toward Major Chuck Johnson and Detective Bryon Lawson who disarmed the female subject following a brief struggle.


Detectives and deputies found methamphetamine, hydrocodone, scales, pipes and other paraphernalia, marijuana, 28 long guns and 10 pistols, collectible coins, and a large amount of US currency.


The two arrested individuals were identified as:

Johnny James Shoup age 64 of East Laurel Rd., London charged with trafficking in a controlled substance – first-degree – first offense – methamphetamine; trafficking in a controlled substance – first-degree – first offense; possession of a firearm by a convicted felon; two counts of endangering the welfare of a minor; trafficking in marijuana first offense.

Debbie L. Hubbard age 51 of East Laurel Rd., London charged with two counts of wanton endangerment – first-degree – police officer is victim; two counts of wanton endangerment – first-degree; trafficking in a controlled substance – first-degree – first offense; two counts of endangering the welfare of a minor; trafficking in marijuana first offense.

Both were lodged in the Laurel County correctional center.
