Update - Injury collision in Bell County

From the Kentucky State Police -

Meldrum Ky. (July 1, 2019) On Monday, July 1, 2019 at 10:28 a.m. Kentucky State Police, Post 10 Harlan received a call of a two vehicle collision on U.S25E in the Meldrum community of Bell County. Trooper Don Perry responded and began an investigation.


Preliminary investigation indicates that 57 year old Lewis Saylor of Pineville was attempting to make a left turn off of U.S.25E onto Ky 188 while operating a yellow Chevrolet Cobalt. Mr. Lewis turned into the path of a blue Ford Fusion operated by 21 year old Lauren Kirby of Middlesboro who was traveling north on U.S.25E. Everyone involved in the collision was flown to University of Tennessee Medical Center for their injuries including 12 year old Ciara Jones of Middlesboro was the passenger in the yellow Cobalt and 1 year old Grayson Short of Middlesboro was the passenger in the blue Ford Fusion.


Drugs and alcohol are not suspected in the collision. Seatbelts and child restraints were in use at the time of the collision.


Collison is under investigation by Tpr. Don Perry. Also assisting on scene was the Bell County Fire Department, Middlesboro Fire Department, Bell County Rescue Squad and Constable Glen Hobbs.
