UPDATE: Middlesboro Police arrest a man wanted for felony auto theft and gas theft

From The Middlesboro Police Department -

Update: 31-year-old Taylor DeHart has been located and arrested. The vehicle was located near the Bell County/Harlan County line in Cardinal, Ky.


An eyewitness tells WRIL that he walked right by their home after abandoning the truck claiming the transmission had gone out on the vehicle. (picture submitted) A wrecker service was contacted to retrieve the truck.


While at Middlesboro Police Department for processing, DeHart escaped from officers by running out of the police station after being placed under arrest. After a very short foot pursuit, officers were able to apprehend DeHart and place him in custody again.


Taylor Dehart has been lodged in the Bell County Detention Center charged with theft by unlawful taking - gasoline, theft by unlawful taking (auto) over $10,000 but less than $1,000,000, resisting arrest, and escape - 2nd degree. He is being held under a $10,000 cash bond.


ORIGINAL STORY


The MPD is seeking public assistance locating 31-year-old Taylor DeHart of Cumberland Gap, Tennessee wanted for felony theft of an automobile and misdemeanor theft of gasoline.


On Tuesday, May 30, 2022 DeHart test drove a gray 2009 Ford F-150 from Ellis Auto Sales on Highway 25E and he failed to return it. A short time after getting the vehicle, DeHart then went to 38th street BP, pumped gas, and then drove off without paying.

The police department has received several calls that DeHart was last seen in the area of Blackmont Church on Highway 72.
