From WRIL -
UPDATE: The Cumberland Police Department reports they arrested one of the two escaped inmates from a Benham work detail that had been housed at the Harlan County Detention Center.
In the release the department states that on Tuesday, August 23rd at approximately 7:51pm, Joshua Mendoza was taken into custody at Mountain View Cemetery off of Kingdom Come State Park Road in Cumberland without incident by SGT Marion Stewart. He was served a Governors Warrant for Escape 2nd Degree. Joshua Mendoza has been returned to custody at the Harlan County Detention Center.
Terry Siler is still currently on the run from authorities.
On Tuesday, August 16, 2022, two inmates walked off of work detail in the Benham Community of Harlan County. The men, identified as 37-year-old Terry Siler of Cumberland, Ky. and 39-year-old Joshua Mendoza of Alma, Ga., were working on a culvert in the area.
During the search for the men, a local school was placed on lockdown out of precaution.
Harlan County Chief Deputy Matt Cope tells us that while their department was not directly involved in overseeing the investigation conducted by the KSP, they did provide assistance.
We understand that the two men were in jail on non-violent charges and are not considered dangerous.
We have reached out to the Kentucky State Police for more information on this incident.
