At approximately 6:30am on Thursday, November 9, 2023, a fatal accident occurred on Highway 33 at Church Street in Maynardville involving a passenger vehicle and a tractor trailer.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol informs WRIL that a 2023 Freightliner tractor trailer, driven by 42-year-old David Hill of Tennessee, was pulling out of Marathon gas station parking lot onto Highway 33 heading southbound. A 2006 Honda CRV driven by 46-year-old Michael J. Beason of Claiborne County, was traveling northbound on Highway 33 and struck the Freightliner in the trailer area causing the vehicle to become wedged under the trailer.
The trailer had to be jacked up by a wrecker to remove the Honda CRV according to an eyewitness. Tragically, Michael Beason died due to injuries suffered in the collision.
On scene was the the Union County EMS, Union County Sheriff's Department, and Tennessee Highway Patrol who is in charge of the investigation.
The report additionally states that there are no pending charges in this incident.
