UPDATE - One dead in a Bell County shooting incident during an alleged home invasion

From WRIL -

10:20am 3-21-19 Update from the Bell County Coroner's Office - The decedent that is the subject of a death investigation for the Bell County Coroner has been identified as Pineville resident Jeffery Dwayne Fuston, age 27.

Fuston was taken to the Kentucky State Medical Examiners Office in Frankfort by Deputy Donald Horton Thursday morning.

Just after 11:00pm Bell County Dispatch received a call from a woman stating there was a disturbance at a residence on Bradford Town Right Road. Responding were Bell County Deputies Justin Patterson, Jake Perry, and shortly afterward KSP Trooper Josh Messer.

As the deputies approached the residence the woman called back stating she heard gunshots coming from the home.

Once on scene Deputy Justin Patterson states that he and Deputy Perry were greeted by the homeowners on the front porch who said someone had attacked them. After further investigation it was determined that a friend had come to the home and at some point he was asked to leave after tempers flared. According to the homeowners, the friend then left the residence and the homeowner locked the house for the night, but he forced entry back into the home.

Deputy Patterson went on to state that the homeowners claimed the man then assaulted both the husband and wife with the fighting continuing inside the residence. The man was asked to leave several times and the fighting continued to the point that the male homeowner drew his firearm and discharged it in fear for the safety of his family, shooting the man.

Also responding to the scene was the Bell County EMS who attempted to transport the injured man to a landing zone to be flown out, but due to the severity of the gunshot wounds he was taken to the Southeastern Kentucky Medical Center where he later died.

Bell County Deputy Coroner Donald Horton responded to the emergency room pronouncing the man deceased at 12:05am. The Bell County Coroner’s Office will release the decedent’s name when it is confirmed that all of the decedent’s immediate family has been notified.

This is still an active investigation by Bell County Sheriff’s Deputy Justin Patterson assisted by Jake Perry.
