Assault 1st degree arrest for father of shaken baby, deputy credited with saving child's life

Laurel Sheriff's Detective Taylor McDaniel arrested Christopher Caldwell age 27 of Corbin on Thursday afternoon January 21, 2021 following an investigation into an earlier incident which had occurred on January 18, 2021 at approximately 12:19 pm after deputies and ambulance service were dispatched to a complaint of a three month old child unresponsive off Monhollen Drive in southern Laurel County.
When deputies arrived at the scene, Deputy Allen Turner began CPR on the baby credited with saving the child's life.
Upon arrival at the scene, the ambulance service worked with the baby, then transported the child to Baptist Healthcare where the baby was treated and transferred to UK Med center in Lexington where the baby continues to receive treatment.
Lexington doctors found a brain bleed on the child. As the investigation continued by Laurel Sheriff's investigators, the father of the 57-day old baby was interviewed and admitted that he shook the baby in an aggressive manner to make the baby stop crying.

Assisting on the investigation and arrest for the Laurel County Sheriff's office were: Laurel County Sheriff John Root, Maj. Chuck Johnson, Lt. Chris Edwards, ,Sgt. Brett Reeves, Detective Robert Reed, K-9 Deputy Jake Miller, Deputy Jamie Etherton and Deputy Allen Turner. Laurel Sheriff's Detective Taylor McDaniel is the case officer. Also assisting at the scene was Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County.
Social Services also assisted sheriff’s investigators on the case.
