Corbin man charged with assaulting wife

A Corbin man is being held in the Whitley County Detention Center after police say he assaulted his wife with an SUV Wednesday.

Christopher Carter, 44, is facing one count of second-degree assault – domestic violence in connection with the incident that resulted in Angie Carter being airlifted to the University of Kentucky Medical Center for treatment of injuries to her left leg and both feet.

Whitley County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the scene on McKeehan Crossing Road off of U.S. 25W at approximately 12:30.

While emergency personnel treated Angie Carter at the scene, deputies began searching for Christopher Carter’s 2004 Ford Explorer.

Deputy Joe Prewitt initiated a traffic stop on U.S. 25W, taking Carter into custody on the assault charge. Further investigation led to multiple traffic-related charges including: Operating on a suspended/revoked operator’s license, no insurance, obstructed vision and/or windshield and improper equipment.

Christopher Carter is being held without bond in the detention center.

He is scheduled to be arraigned via video Friday in Whitley Circuit Court in Corbin.

Under Kentucky law, second-degree assault is a Class C felony, carrying a potential prison sentence of five to ten years.
