Family with children arrested after traffic stop

From the Bell County Sheriff's Department -

Johnny Smith - BCDC

(Bell County, Ky.) - On Friday 26 July 2019, at approximately 10:18pm, Bell County Deputy Edward Dray observed a gray 2004 Buick utility vehicle, with a temporary Kentucky registration plate in the back window, traveling north on Old Pineville Pike at a high rate of speed. The deputy also saw that one of the tail lamps was not working and that the front windshield was busted.

After following the vehicle, an abrupt left hand turn was made onto Cannon Creek Lake Hill Road at high rate of speed. Deputy Dray observed the Buick traveling too fast for road conditions, driving very carelessly/recklessly, and failing to disregard the possibility of oncoming traffic (traveling East) around blind curves and steep grades by driving on the wrong side of the road. A traffic stop was then conducted on Cannon Creek Lake Hill Road.

Upon contact with the driver/suspect, identified as 49 year old Johnny Smith of Pineville, Deputy Dray immediately noticed Smith exhibiting behavior consistent with being intoxicated and he was not wearing a seat belt. Seen in the vehicle was a large hatchet, unsheathed, located within plain view, on the center console.

The deputy informed Smith of the nature of the stop and requested that he exit the motor vehicle and due to nervous behavior he was asked to be search and consent was given. A search of Smith revealed a small clear plastic bag containing a clear crystal substance believed to be Crystal Methamphetamine and five peach oblong tablets believed to contain Hydrocodone. Standard Field Sobriety Tests were then conducted on Smith, which he failed.

After being read his rights, Smith stated that he had recently used Methamphetamine via smoke pipe, recently taken approximately three or four Hydrocodone, and had recently purchased the Crystal Methamphetamine.

Also in the vehicle was Smith’s wife 38 year old Pircilla Ann Jones/Smith of Pineville which the investigation revealed she had outstanding bench warrant. In the rear passenger seat of the above motor vehicle was 37 year old Sabrina Margaret Jordan Pineville, which investigation showed she had three outstanding bench warrants. Smith’s two children were also in the vehicle.

A search of the vehicle revealed an additional small clear plastic bag, containing a clear crystal substance, believed to be Crystal Methamphetamine, and a small clear empty plastic bag located within the front driver's seat floor board, directly under where Johnny Smith was sitting.

Due to all three adults being arrested, family member of the juveniles traveled to the scene to take physical custody of them. Wagner’s towing came and retrieved the vehicle.
