Knox County Ky Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Gray man wanted in connection with a March 25 theft of more than $10,000 worth of household items from a neighbor’s home.

Jacob Todd Smith, 39, is facing one count of theft by unlawful taking of the value of $10,000 or more but less than $1 million.

The victim, identified as Delletta Abner, filed a complaint against Smith.

According to the complaint, Smith, along with Abner’s grandson, broke into the home in mid-March, taking numerous items, including furniture and appliances.

Abner was not at home at the time, and had not been at the residence for approximately two months. Abner’s grandson reportedly admitted that he and Smith had taken the items, which they traded for drugs.

However, upon searching Smith’s residence, the stolen items were found on his back porch.

Smith was arrested early Sunday morning on Ky. 3438, following a traffic stop on unrelated charges.

Smith has pleaded not guilty to the charges and is scheduled to return to Knox District Court on May 21 for a preliminary hearing to determine whether there is probable cause to present the case to a grand jury.

He is being held in the Knox County Detention Center on a $25,000 cash bond.

No charges have yet been filed against the grandson.
