Wednesday afternoon just after 2:00pm work detail inmate 37 year old Rocky Howerton jumped out of a work truck near the 25th street and Highway 441 intersection in Middlesboro and fled on foot. Middlesboro authorities then began searching for Howerton.
Bell County Jailer Gary Ferguson tells us that Howerton was in jail on very minor charges for approximately 30 days and can't understand why he left having such a short sentence. He also says he is now facing a felony escape charge which could add significant time to his current sentence.
Ferguson also says that Howerton is most likely in the Middlesboro area and is not a danger to anyone.
Rocky Howerton is 5' 6", 150 lbs, with black hair and black goatee. If you have seen him please call local law enforcement.
