UPDATE - Kentucky State Police investigate fatal collision in Harlan County

From Kentucky State Police Post 10 -

On Saturday, April 24, 2021 Kentucky State Police, Post 10 Harlan received a call at 7:22 p.m. about a single vehicle collision on Ky 72 in the Harlan community of Harlan County.


Trooper Aaron Caldwell, Tpr. Daniel Mann and Tpr. Brandon Pierson responded to the scene.


The initial investigation indicates a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt was traveling west on Ky 72 and lost control. The vehicle exited the right side of the roadway and struck a wooden fence, then continued through a field before striking a utility pole, overturning in the field and coming to rest on all four wheels.


Deputy Coroner Jim Rich responded and pronounced the passenger, 18 year old Jordan Johnson of Harlan deceased at the scene. The seventeen year old driver of the vehicle was transported to Harlan ARH Hospital for moderate injuries.


Det. Jacob Middleton is continuing the investigation. Also assisted at the scene were Det. Rodney Sturgill and Deputy Coroner Jim Rich.
