From Knox County Sheriff Mike Smith -
Working together in conjunction with Barbourville Police and the FBI, the Knox County Resource Officers arrested a juvenile regarding a Snapchat threat against Knox County Schools.
On Monday night September 9, 2024, at 10:00 pm screenshots of a threatening message began circulating in the Knox County community.
The joint investigation, led by Knox County SRO Jake Knuckles and Barbourville Officer Adam Townsley, showed that the 14-year-old male juvenile had sent the message from an IP address of his residence. Located at the home by the officers, was the tablet used to send the Snap.
The juvenile was arrested at approximately 1:08pm and charged with Terroristic Threatening - 1st degree.
Knox County Sheriff Mike Smith states that threats toward any school system are taken seriously and if found to be credible, will be fully prosecuted.
Also assisting were Knox County School Resource Officers Deputies Pat Clouse and Mike Broughton, Barbourville Police Chief Winston Tye, and the FBI.
