Major drug and gun bust in Claiborne 

From the Claiborne County Sheriff's Department -

On June 1st, 2019 the Claiborne County Sheriff's Office Patrol Division initiated a traffic stop on a 1989 Chevrolet Corvette along U.S. Highway 25E for a light law violation.

The 1989 Chevrolet Corvette was being operated at 4:00 a.m. with inoperable rear lights. Upon investigation Claiborne County deputies discovered approximately four ounces of a crystal substance believed to be Methamphetamine and one set of digital scales hidden inside the vehicle.

The passenger of the vehicle was identified as Devin Shawn Moscoe Lewis 19 of Pineville, Kentucky who was arrested and charged with Possession of Methamphetamine for Resale.

The Claiborne County Patrol Division worked through the early morning hours and found that Mr. Lewis had been residing at 2165 U.S. Highway 25E (Dixie Plaza Motel).


Deputies were then able to gain entry into the room where Mr. Lewis was residing and located approximately five more ounces of a crystal substance believed to also be Methamphetamine.

While executing a search of Mr. Lewis's room deputies found Steven M. King of Middlesboro Kentucky. Mr. King was arrested on outstanding warrant's from Claiborne County. (Picture from previous arrest in Bell County)

During the course of investigation deputies responded to a residence on Nell Street in New Tazewell. Deputies were given consent to search the residence in regards to the sale of illegal narcotics.

Deputies located 8.2 grams of a crystal substance believed to be Methamphetamine, 13.5 grams of a green plant material believed to be Marijuana and six tablets believed to be a Schedule IV Controlled Substance, Five Firearms and $2,400.00 in United States Currency believed to be proceeds of illegal narcotics transactions.

A combined estimated street value of approximately $28,000 worth of Methamphetamine was seized during the course of investigation.


The investigation is still currently ongoing and multiple other arrest are anticipated to stem from this investigation at a later date.
