Man dead after tree falls on his vehicle

One man is dead after a tree fell on his vehicle inside the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, according to a press release from park officials.


Officials said it happened just before 4 p.m. Monday. The man died a short time later.


The man is identified as Patrick Cook Elliott, 64, of Knoxville. He was driving a 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee heading west along Little River Road about seven miles from the Sugarlands Visitor Center when the tree fell.


Investigators found no obvious signs of blunt force trauma due to the impact of the fallen tree.

The cause of death is under investigation. A female passenger in the vehicle was not hurt.
