From The Bell County Detention Center -

At 1:32pm Friday, July 24, 2020 Bell County Dispatch received a call of a motorcycle vs. vehicle accident with serious injuries on Highway 3486 (Old Pineville Pike).

Responding to the scene was Bell County Deputy Sgt. Patrick Brooks and Deputy Major Edwards who found an injured operator of a motorcycle, Dewayne Smith, lying on the ground. Also responding to the scene was the Middlesboro Fire/EMS who treated Smith’s injuries and stabilized him to be flown to UT Hospital via PHI medical helicopter out of London.

A bystander informed Sgt. Brooks that the individual that struck Dewayne Smith with his vehicle had fled the scene and a likely place he would be found. A be-on-the-lookout was issued for 28 year old Logan Jeffrey of Middlesboro and with the assistance of the Middlesboro Police the vehicle was found at Bella Gardens Apartments.

A short time later Logan Jeffrey was found at his mother’s residence on Old Pineville Pike and taken into custody.

He was lodged in the Bell County Detention Center charged with operating on a suspended or revoked operator’s license, driving without a license/negligence in an accident, and leaving the scene of an accident/failure to render aid or assist with serious physical injury.
