Saturday morning February 6, 2021, at 9:05am, Middlesboro Police Sgt. Barry Cowan and Middlesboro Fire/EMS responded to a call of a vehicle that had run into the side entrance of the Village Square Mall.
Once on scene, the sergeant recognized the silver 4 door as a vehicle that was involved in a similar incident on Friday, February 5th. The driver, 49 year-old Erika Givens of Middlesboro, was cited to court for driving under the influence after requesting medical assistance.
Givens told witnesses at the scene Saturday that she has a medical issue, but through Sgt. Cowan’s observation and investigation of her behavior drugs were involved. She was transported to the Middlesboro ARH for treatment of possible injuries.
After being released from the hospital, Erika Givens was lodged in the Bell County Detention Center charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs and no insurance.
