In the early morning hours of October 01, 2022, two vehicles were broken into at Balltown Apartment’s. WPD officers responded and initiated an investigation. Various items, with an estimated value of $5,300.00 were stolen. A three day investigation led by Officer Bryson Lawson, Lt. Brandon White, Officer Trevor Teague, WCSD Deputy Joe Prewitt, and several agencies in Tennessee and Georgia, led to the stolen items being found and recovered in Dalton, GA.
Through the investigation, a suspect was identified. On October 3, 2022, Ernest P. Shackleford, 51, of Ohio, was arrested and taken into custody and is currently lodged in a correctional facility in Dalton, GA. Shackleford is also accused of fleeing from TN & GA law enforcement agencies resulting in three separate vehicle pursuits.
Shackleford is also believed to be involved in an additional theft that occurred in the Ryan’s Creek area of Whitley County.
Fox Chattanooga states that online records show Shackleford was convicted in 2018 for "illegal use of minor in nudity-oriented material."
