Traffic stop leads to trafficking charge

At 11:15pm Friday night March 8, 2019 a Middlesboro woman was arrested on drug charges.


Officer Nick Capps states in his citation that he was behind a 2006 blue van and made a traffic stop on the vehicle for the rear license plate not illuminated.


Once stopped at the 38th street BP station, Capps made contact with the driver identified as 31 year old Candace Simpson explaining the reason for the stop.


Officer Capps asked for consent to search the vehicle and it was given. Upon searching, Capps found a baggy containing a substance believed to be Methamphetamine weighing approximately (7) seven grams. Also found was a digital scale, and a distribution baggy.


Candace Simpson was arrested and lodged in the Bell County Detention Center charged with Trafficking in controlled substance 1st degree 1st offense – greater than 2 grams – Methamphetamine, buying/possessing drug paraphernalia, and rear license plate not illuminated. She was released on an unknown bond.
