Traffic stop on a vehicle results in charges of trafficking Meth for Middlesboro woman

On Saturday, February 6, 2021, at approximately 6:20 pm Officer Chris Barnes made a traffic stop on a 2001 Chevy Tahoe for a registration and window tint violation. Operating the vehicle was 29 -year-old Megan Hatfield of Middlesboro.


After a warrant check, it was determined that Hatfield had two outstanding warrants for failure to appear. After she was placed under arrest, Officer Barnes searched her vehicle locating several distribution bags, digital scales, a small distribution bag containing a crystal like substance and $857.00 in cash.


The officer states that once he transported Hatfield to the police station, she told him that she had more Methamphetamine inside of her bra. She then removed a large bag containing a crystal like substance weighing approximately an ounce from the inside of her bra area.


Officer Barnes states that after transporting Hatfield to Bell County Detention Center, the jail found another bag containing a crystal like substance as they were booking her in.


Megan Hatfield was charged with rear license plate not illuminated, failure to produce insurance card, trafficking a controlled substance - 1st degree (greater than 2 grams Methamphetamine), possession of drug paraphernalia, tampering with physical evidence, and promoting contraband - 1st degree. She was also served the two outstanding warrants.
