Two Arrested In Thefts From Pine Mountain Settlement School

As part of an on-going investigation by Kentucky State Police into thefts occurring at Pine Mountain Settlement School in Harlan, two women - former employees - have been indicted and arrested for their alleged roles in the incidents.


On April 17th, indictment true bills were established by the Harlan County Grand Jury for 47-year-old Jeannie Crain of Bledsoe Kentucky and 29-year-old Kaley Butcher of Baxter.  The women were arrested on Tuesday, April 23rd.


Butcher’s indictment states that on or about January 2018 through December 2023 she fraudulently used a debit/credit card belonging to the school for unauthorized purchases for her personal benefit over $1,000 but under $10,000.


Jeannie Crain was indicted for theft by unlawful taking $10,000 or more but under $1,000,000 by using funds belonging to Pine Mountain Settlement School for unauthorized personal use totaling $95,939.


Both Butcher and Crain were lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center but have been released after posting bond.


As the investigation continues, more arrests are expected.
