Original coverage:

Floyd County Sheriff John Hunt has confirmed to WMDJ that the active shooter and hostage situation is OVER at Old Allen, Ky.

In a Facebook post from the Sheriff's Department it was stated: "As reported earlier by different news media outlets, a deadly shooting has taken place tonight. An official statement from Sheriff will be released later. But for now he wants to thank everyone for your concern, texts, phone calls and most importantly your prayers. He asks that you please continue to pray for all of the men and women involved and the families who have suffered loss."

The shooter is in custody. Two hostages, shooters wife and daughter, are both safe. Five to six individuals - possibly more, some believed to be law enforcement, were shot during the incident and taken to local hospitals for treatment. The conditions of those shot has not been released.

KSP Swat team and ATF officers from Ashland and London responded to the scene.

The incident began around 5 p.m. after deputies with the Floyd County Sheriffs Department attempted to serve papers on Main Street to a male subject at a residence in Old Allen. The individual barricaded himself in the residence and then fired shots at the deputies.

Louisville's Ashland and London ATF, Kentucky State Police and other officials responded quickly to the scene and gunfire occurred confirmed per eyewitnesses. The Floyd County coroner has also responded to the scene. We understand that the KSP Critical Incident Response Unit will be handling the investigation.

Contrary to a report that Sheriff Hunt was shot, that was not true.

The area around the incident will be closed off for an undetermined amount of time and more details are expected soon.
