From WRIL The Big One -
As we previously reported, on Wednesday night August 24th a Claiborne County Jail correctional officer was stabbed in the ear by the inmate who used an item he altered and made into a weapon.
The inmate has been identified as Austin Wayne Greer. He was transferred to Blount County Jail and has now been charged with a felony count of Conspiracy to Commit Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon Against an Officer.
Two other inmates currently lodged in the Claiborne County Jail have also been given the same charge. Both 29-year-old Bobby Lawson and 31-year-old Joshua Foister are facing the same felony.
The officer was given medical attention at the facility, taken to Claiborne Medical Center, and then on to UT Medical Center for more specialized treatment. While serious, the injury was not life-threatening and the staff member is expected to recover quickly according to Jail Administrator Tim Shrout.
I know Lawson personally. I need to see and hear the evidence before I believe anything. Seems so out of character for him. He has no reason to be involved with anything like this. I was with him when he was arrested/surrendered and am familiar with why he was. I know his story. He’s been trying to do his time for the BS charges he has, but the jail “system“ just wanted him to take probation with payments on a weekly basis! He didn’t even have to be in jail! But he refused to pay into the system to keep it funded, he CHOSE to do time rather than pay for probation, to clear his name, now this?!!! Seems fish…
