The body of a man found in Lee County near ATV trails has been identified.

According to Lee County Sheriff Gary Parsons, the deceased man was identified as 44-year-old Jerry Lee Wheet, of Ewing.

Wheet was found in a wooded area along Valley Springs Road in the Rose Hill community Wednesday afternoon by three people morrell hunting. Both Parsons and Virginia State Police confirmed that the case is still being investigated as a homicide.

According to Parsons, Wheet’s death appears to be targeted, but there is no danger to the public.

State police are asking that anyone who may have seen something suspicious or who may have information about Wheet to call investigators at 276-889-7660.
