2 passengers, several charges

From The Knox County Sheriff's Department -

At approximately 1:30pm Friday afternoon May 31, 2019 Deputy Sam Mullins and special Deputy Darian Abner were in the area of Popular Grove Church Road when they observed a gold Ford Taurus in violation of a traffic offense.


When the deputies turned on the vehicle to initiate a traffic stop the passengers were observed moving around in the vehicle namely the front passenger who appeared to be hiding something.


During the stop the female driver was found not to be in violation of any laws, but passengers 40-year-old Tony Couch of Corbin and 54 year old Elmer Burnette of Gray, were searched in the incident.


During a search of the vehicle the deputies located Methamphetamine, Marijuana, digital scales, a pipe used to smoke Meth, and approximately $11,000 in cash.


Tony Couch - KCDC

Tony Couch was arrested and charged with:

Trafficking in controlled substance, 1st degree, 1st offense – less than 2 grams - Methamphetamine,

Possession of Marijuana,

Buying/possessing drug paraphernalia.





Elmer Burnette - KCDC

Elmer Burnette was arrested and charged with:

Trafficking in controlled substance, 1st degree, 1st offense - greater than 2 grams - Methamphetamine,

Trafficking in Marijuana (less than 8 ounces) 1st offense

Buying/possessing drug paraphernalia,

Failure to wear seatbelts.


Both men are being held on $10,000 cash bonds each.
