Altercation in Williamsburg leads to arrest of one for using a hammer and gun during the fight

WPD Lieutenant Brandon White arrested James L. Mays, age 25 of Williamsburg, Saturday evening August 15, 2020 at approximately 8:37 PM.


The arrest occurred on Morton Street after officers responded to a fight complaint. Officers conducted an investigation and determined that two males got into a physical altercation, which resulted in a male being struck in the head with a hammer and a gun being pointed in the direction of the victim.


A hammer and a hand gun was recovered at the scene.

Mays was charged with Assault 2nd degree, and Wanton endangerment 1st degree. He was lodged in the Whitley County County Detention Center.


WPD Officers Cody Harrell, Steven Hill, and Dorman Patrick Jr. responded to the scene as well and assisted with the investigation.
