Bimble man arrested for impersonating a deputy and shooting near two men

From the Knox County Ky Sheriff's Department -

On Sunday, October 20, 2019 Knox County Deputy Bobby Jones was dispatched to Paynes Creek Road in Hinkle where a man had reportedly pulled a gun on two men and shot into the ground.


After arriving at the location and interviewing the two men, Deputy Jones learned that James Campbell had told them he was a deputy at the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, while holding the men at gun point and threatening to kill them before letting them leave.


They also stated that Campbell was armed with a rifle and two handguns and was driving a dark Chevy truck. Deputy Jones located and stopped the vehicle on Paynes Creek Road.


After observing a rifle and two handguns as described by the victims, Deputy Jones arrested 47 year old James Russell Campbell of Bimble, KY charging him with Impersonating a Peace Officer, two counts of Wanton Endangerment-1st Degree, two counts of Unlawful Imprisonment-1st Degree, Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence, Failure to Produce Insurance Card and No Registration Receipt.


James Campbell was lodged in the Knox County Detention Center.
